The Miracles of Christmas
Please pray with me. May the words of my lips and the meditations in all our hearts be acceptable to you, O Lord, our Strength and our Redeemer. Amen
The Christmas story is wonderful and well-known. I am sure that you could almost recite it by heart. In those days a decree was issued by Emperor Augustus for a registration to be made throughout the world. ... And so Joseph went up to Judea from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to register at the city of David, called Bethlehem. You do know it well.
I believe you all know the message that Jesus' birth brought to the world, the message contained in the fragment from the reading of Titus. "For the grace of God has dawned upon the world for the healing for all humankind."
A miraculous story, with three miracles.
The miracle of birth, new life.
The miracle of God on earth.
The miracle of the shepherds responding to God's messenger. They went, they saw, they told.
You are today's shepherd. You come to worship. You see the miracle of Christ at work here, in the body of Christ. Now go out and tell the world the Christmas story, tell it to family and friends, to old and young, to strangers. Proclaim the good news that God is among you.
Merry Christmas to you all.
